Calling all Dancesporters - Comps, Dates and Sheffield!

York Dancesport - Sun, 01/22/2012 - 16:56

Hi everyone! So - we're drawing towards the start of competition season and dates have been announced as follows:

* The first competition is Sheffield Social - held, unsurprisingly, in Sheffield on the 4th February.

* Second is NUDC (the dance comp for northern unis) - held at the University of Birmingham on 11th February.

* Third is IVDC (the big one) - held in at Blackpool, on 3rd March.

If you're in the team and hoping to compete we need you to be making as many lessons and practices as possible, so that you and your partner can have as much time to work on the routines as you need. Extra practices are in the process of being scheduled to offer more flexibility, and recordings of routines are available through the facebook group, so check them out if you find it helpful. We'll also be running a session to go over floor craft, so, if this is your first comp make sure you come along so we can clue you in as to what to expect on the day! Any queries or questions can of course be asked via email, facebook, or, ask us in person (we don't bite....)

Moo is dead… RIP Moo

Hamster Blog - Mon, 03/28/2011 - 19:19

With sadness we write that Moo died today.

Moo the hamster - RIP

This evening Moo was put to sleep by the vet. Claire noticed Moo sitting atop her frame late this afternoon, and when picking her up she wibbled and wobbled and clung onto Claire’s hands. Acording to the vet, Moo had either a brain tumor or small stroke and as such was suffering from extreme hamster motion sickness. To stop her suffering we made the decision to let her go.

Moo lived a fun and friendly life. Stashing food in her wheel, running around with an egg biscuit and snuggling in Moo Mountain with her Moo Blanket. All these traits Moo continued right to the very end. She will be missed by us all.

British Summer Time confuses hamster

Hamster Blog - Sun, 03/27/2011 - 21:36

Moo clearly wasn’t feeling that great today. Being woken up an hour earlier than usual for her weekend clean out did not put her in a good mood. In fact we were actually rather concerned, as far from her normal bubbly, excitable self, Moo was really quite docile. A docile Moo is in complete contrast to her normal behaviour. Instead of climbing all over me, the sofa and up the wall, Moo was just sitting squat in my hand, with her little Moo behind doing that twitchy thing that it does.

Moo’s treat of an egg biscuit didn’t even wake her up. With her ears flat and her eyes squinting, she jostled around with the overside biscuit for only a few seconds, before reversing back into Moo Mountain leaving the biscuit only partially nibbled to the side. Normal Moo behaviour would be to hurl the biscuit around the cage, running about with it between her teeth like a crazy dog with a bone.

Thankfully though, by the time night came, Moo was a little more her usual self. Seeking out her overflowing bowl and ramming her face right in the middle of the pile of food:
